Learning in the Time of Covid

  • “My classes have been a life saver”
  • “I feel a sense of community”
  • “It is something I look forward to every week”
  • I feel like I am really doing something for myself
  • “I can see see the progress I am making”

These are just a few comments we have received from our students during these unusual times. Since restrictions have been put in place, people have gotten creative with how they connect and how they spend their nonworking hours. Goals and interests that have been kicking around in the back of your mind now seem a possibility with online learning. Just the fact that you don’t need to travel to a class to learn can make the difference to fitting it into your schedule.

People have discovered that far from seeming “remote”, online language learning has made them feel connected and part of a community. When ABC moved online, we discovered the sweet spot of no more than six students per class. This keeps things small and intimate. Students have even made friends with each other and exchanged notes and ideas outside of class. Some people have chosen private lessons so they can fit in a quick hour lesson during the working day or early in the morning. Circumstances have made language learning surprisingly more accessible than ever.

How about you? Is there something you had wanted to learn before and have taken up online over the past year? Let us know the comments below.
